On Tuesday/Rātū Here-turi-kōkā/August 8 2017, a very excited and energetic group of Newlands Intermediate and Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi Marae rangatahi had the privilege of supporting Wellington City Council park ranger, Matt Robertson and Whaea Amanda Dobson.

The planting was for the new bush track that was named by our marae, Te Ara o Paparārangi and borders Gilberd’s Reserve. Mr McAtamney, one of our deputy principals also helped us with our planting. Matt Robertson gave us a quick demonstration on how to plant correctly, then he sent us away with a shovel and gloves to start planting.

The day was filled with jokes and screaming girls, especially when a worm appeared! The most important about the day was us hard-working kids helping the environment. The day was finished off with a walk around the track. We returned to school a little wet and cold but definitely more eco-friendly.
